Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes! We offer free estimates for all types of fence jobs. We know that a proper estimate is one of the most crucial determining factors of whether a project will push through. Even if the estimate is hardly ever equal to the amount payable in the actual bill, a proper estimate at the start can still give you a good idea about the rest of the project. In the estimation process, we will be considering the current costs of materials, labor hours, the needed equipment, as well some miscellaneous costs for the project. This can be delivered to you after a short visit to your site.

How soon can you install my fence?

It is unusual to have a fence ordered today be available for installation right away on the next day. A waiting time of about two to four weeks must be allowed. Even if premade fences are ready to install once shipped, there is still waiting time for processing of orders. Moreover, we would still have to schedule the installation for your setting. If you are getting a fence that needs to be fabricated, you must allow an addition two or three more weeks for this. Therefore, the average time to installation is at least two to four weeks, and at most, five to six weeks.

How long will my fence installation take?

Unlike the waiting time prior to installation, we follow a more straightforward schedule for the installation itself. The period for the average project is at seven days. However, not all these days will be busy with digging and fence installation activities. Intermittently, there will be open days where no active work is done. Some time needs to be spared for settling the materials and letting them cure. If much cement were used, it would need days before it is stable and dry enough. This is already part of the careful planning we do and the project scheduling which is part of our services.

Will you obtain a fence permit for my project?

Yes, fence contractors like the Bakersfield Fence Company are required by local agencies to file for permits for every fence project we make. Generally, fence projects need to be reported and documented since they are property modification activities. Therefore, permits would be required for the project. Usually, more than one permit would be needed per project. Our company will take care of the processing, but we would need cooperation from our clients. To obtain a permit, some forms must be filled out and some documents and papers must be submitted. Some of these can only be provided by the owner of the property.

If the situation is flipped, you know that you would also appreciate notification from our neighbor. As common courtesy, please remember to at least notify your neighbors.

How deep should my fence posts be?

The dimensions of fence posts as well as the depth of the hole for the posts would be proportional to the height of the fence. a short fence would not need a very deep post. In a similar way, a taller fence cannot be sustained by a shallow fence post. Normally, the ideal depth of a fence post should measure at least a third to half the height of the fence from above the ground. The average fence height is six to eight meters. With that, the depth of the fence posts would measure at approximately three feet or one meter.

Should the fence touch the ground?

It is never recommended for the fence to touch the ground. In most circumstances, only the fence posts and nothing else should be allowed to be in contact with the ground. If the entire length of the fence touches the ground, proper maintenance can be challenging. Moreover, your fence may block the drainage outflow. More extensive and earlier onset of damage is also expected for your fence if it is always touching the ground. The soil contains water, and the constant presence of water may cause damage to your fence. Allow two to five inches distance between the ground and the fence to avoid this.

Does the weather affect the installation?

In general weather conditions including rain, wind, sunlight, temperature, and humidity can affect the condition of your fence. in terms of the fence installation proper, prevailing weather conditions may also affect the processes. If yes, your options include vinyl and wood. Would you need soundproofing and a unique stone wall aesthetic? You should try having a SimTek fence installed. Do you need something long-lasting yet designable? If so, an ornamental steel and aluminum fence would be a good choice. If you want something versatile that you can work with under a limited budget, a chain link fence would be best for you.

How tall should my fence be?

Local restrictions in your area may limit how high your fence can be. There is no standard for fence heights in residential settings. However, what we usually put up for backyards and edges of properties measure six to eight feet on the average. These fence types are more for privacy and security purposes. On the other hand, there are shorter options for fences on the front yard. Usually, a fence measuring three feet would do. As long as it is not prohibited in your area, you have the option of adding height to your fences by using toppers.

How long will the fence last?

Mainly, the fence material itself and the attention to maintenance are the main determinants of how long a fence will last. For any fence type, a lifespan of fifteen to twenty years is already a good number. If the fence you have requires more maintenance than other types, you must meticulously perform these measures to extend the life of your fence. For instance, wooden fences require repainting and chemical treatment for them to last. Fences made from cedar can even stand for forty years if properly taken care of. Other factors that influence the lifespan of a fence is proper installation. Hence, you must choose a good fence company for every job.
